In conjunction with its World Lupus 2009 theme, “The Child with Lupus”, Persatuan SLE Malaysia (PSLEM) will be holding a “Colours of Hope” art event on Saturday, 9 May 2009, at 1 Utama Shopping Centre in Petaling Jaya with the support of children’s art centre Get Crafty. Children and young people between the ages of three and 15 are invited to register for the event with PSLEM or at Get Crafty on 2nd Floor Highstreet, 1 Utama Shopping Centre (next to MPH), with a donation of RM25 towards PSLEM’s SLE Fund. Official receipts will be given.
There will be four 1½-hour art sessions on that day for participants to choose from – 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m., 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., and 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. All sessions will be held on the ground floor of the Promenade (next to Burger King and TGIF). Participants can select a craftwork of their choice based on the butterfly motif (which represents the “butterfly rash” that is indicative of lupus). Members of online photographic community ShutterAsia will be on standby to take a photograph of each child with his/her finished craftwork. These photographs will then be displayed on the “Wall of Hope” at 1 Utama’s Community Corner, First Floor, Oval (in front of Juice Works) to be launched by the Minister of Health on World Lupus Day, Sunday, 10 May.
PSLEM will also be holding a sale at 1 Utama’s Community Corner from 10 to 17 May of Pelangi (Rainbow), a children’s novel by Ida Munira Abu Bakar. Written in the form of a child’s diary, Pelangi tells the story of an 11-year old’s battle with lupus. The novel is based on the true story of Ida’s classmate Farha Ibrahim who is now a 26-year-old mother of two young children.
